Trebbiano

Trebbiano

Trebbiano is Italy's most widely planted white grape variety – and one you might not even know by that name. Fresh, acidic, and vibrant , it presents a different face depending on its origin: As Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, it's lemony and direct in the glass; as Lugana from Lake Garda, it's creamier and has a delicate minerality. And in France, where it's called Ugni Blanc, it forms the basis for the world's great Cognacs and Armagnacs.

Their home is primarily Italy , from Tuscany to Abruzzo, but their influence extends far beyond the country's borders. At Vinoscout you'll find 19 wines of this versatile variety, carefully scouted from Italy and beyond – with bottles priced between €5.40 and €37.81, there's something for every occasion and budget.

Other grape varieties

Trebbiano – Italy's versatile white grape variety

Trebbiano is one of Italy's oldest and most widespread white grape varieties. What makes it so special is its remarkable versatility. Depending on its origin and the winemaker, it can produce fresh, light everyday wines as well as serious, age-worthy white wines with real depth – and even sparkling wines and brandies.

character and taste

Trebbiano wines are typically bright, fresh, and characterized by lively acidity. In simpler styles, the variety is light and uncomplicated, with delicate fruity notes and a dry, clean finish. However, in the hands of ambitious winemakers – for example, in the Trebbiano d'Abruzzo DOC – it can become surprisingly complex and full-bodied, with more substance and aging potential than one would initially expect.

Origin

Trebbiano grapes originate in Italy, where they are cultivated in numerous regions – from Abruzzo and Umbria to Lake Garda. There, they are known as Turbiana and form the basis for the elegant Lugana. In France, the same variety is known as Ugni Blanc and provides the foundation for Cognac and Armagnac.
