Clairette is one of the oldest cultivated grape varieties in the Mediterranean region and is found today primarily in the Languedoc-Roussillon as well as – as an exciting exception – in the South African Franschhoek. Clairette has its origins in Southern France, where it has been grown for centuries in the Languedoc – including in the Clairette du Languedoc appellation, one of the few AOCs that give the variety its name.
