Regent is one of the most exciting new German grape varieties: bred in 1967 at Geilweilerhof in the Palatinate, it impresses with its deep, dark color and a full-bodied character reminiscent of ripe dark fruits, spicy notes, and a pleasant structure. As a PIWI grape, it naturally possesses resistance to fungal diseases – a real advantage for sustainable viticulture with significantly reduced pesticide use.

Regent – the robust red wine from German viticulture
Regent is a fungus-resistant grape variety – PIWI for short – that manages without the usual plant protection effort and still delivers really good red wine. In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red to almost black-violet, powerful and full-bodied on the palate with soft tannins and a pleasant spice. If you are looking for a substantial German red wine that was produced sustainably, Regent is the perfect choice.
Origin and character
Regent was bred in Germany and has established itself primarily in German wine regions. The variety naturally brings a lot of color and substance – the result is full-bodied, dry red wines that are fun even without years of cellar aging. Some winemakers deliberately use Regent in cuvées to add depth and structure.
