Codega
If you're looking for Portuguese white wines beyond the mainstream, Códega is a real find. This grape variety originates from northeastern Portugal, where it thrives on warm, sunny slopes, particularly in the Douro Valley and Trás-os-Montes. It produces fresh, aromatic wines that impress with vibrant fruit and a pleasant spiciness – approachable yet full of character.
As an indigenous grape variety of northern Portugal, Códega plays an important role in the regional wine culture, but is hardly cultivated outside of Portugal. At Vinoscout you'll find a hand-picked selection of three wines that will introduce you to this special variety – from everyday bottles starting at €8.70 to more sophisticated examples for wine connoisseurs.

Other grape varieties
Códega – a quiet great from the Douro
Códega is a white grape variety from Portugal that is primarily at home in the Douro Valley. It belongs to those varieties that you hardly find on the label – and that is exactly what makes it interesting. Whether as a component of classic Douro white wines or as a player in White Port: Códega brings body and a certain fullness without appearing intrusive. The style is rather round and accessible, with a pleasant freshness that goes well with seafood, light meat, or simply a relaxed evening.
Códega in the Douro Valley
The Douro Valley in the north of Portugal is one of the oldest wine regions in the world – known for Port, but long since also for dry white wines of real character. Códega is a traditional variety here that often works in blends with other native grape varieties and gives the wine substance.
Three wines that are worth it
At Vinoscout, you will currently find three wines with Códega – from affordable to special. The Casa Ferreirinha Planalto Reserva Douro is a classic entry for just under 9 euros. The Ferreira White Port shows the variety in its sweet, fortified wine side. And the Conceito Unico White is for all those who want to dive deeper – a wine with ambition that wants to justify its price of around 84 euros. In short: there is something for every occasion.
