Malvasia Fina – white port wine from the Douro Valley
Malvasia Fina is one of the classic white grape varieties of the Douro Valley and provides the aromatic basis for elegant white port wines. In the Vinoscout range, you will find two wines from this variety, including Churchill's Dry White Port and Osborne White Port – starting at 11.80 euros.
Origin & character
Malvasia Fina has been growing for centuries in the slate and granite soils of the Portuguese Douro Valley, where extreme summers and cool nights shape the berry's aromatics. As a component of white port wine cuvées, it brings floral notes, ripe pear and a hint of almond into the glass. Depending on the aging – dry or semi-dry – the variety shows itself either fresh and lively with vibrant acidity or softer and nutty with a long, slightly honeyed finish. White port wines based on Malvasia Fina are traditionally drunk young, but can also be convincing as an aperitif in the dry style.
Pairs well with
- Salted almonds and olives as an aperitif accompaniment
- Seafood, grilled octopus or bacalhau
- Mild soft cheeses and goat cheese
- Tonic water on ice as a light summer drink
