Osborne White Port

The port city of Porto, located at the mouth of the Douro, gave its name to arguably the most famous wine in the world. From there, the wine, which has been highly valued especially in England since the middle of the 17th century, is shipped. Its cultivation area is located about 100 kilometers upstream in the upper Douro Valley. On the steep slopes, 80 different grape varieties thrive on heat-storing slate soils, of which up to 40 varieties are approved for port wine production.

Nowadays, modern cellar technology ensures gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation, which is stopped after two to three days by adding wine distillate. Osborne White Port, prepared exclusively from white grapes, is allowed to ferment until a slight residual sugar content remains before wine distillate is added, so that a light golden, delicately sweet aperitif port is created.

The young wine is stored in the wineries over the winter; in the spring, it is brought downstream to Vila Nova de Gaia, opposite Porto, where Osborne, like all famous port wine houses, has its "lodges". There, the wine matures in wooden barrels before bottling.

Like most port wines, Osborne White Port is also a cuvée of wines from different sites and vintages, so that a constant quality is achieved over the years.
