Château Miraval – Provence, perfection and an unusual partnership

Some wineries visibly bear their history within their walls. At Château Miraval, it dates back to the 13th century , when the estate in the Var department was founded as a monastery and vineyard. The wine cellar, still in use today, was built in 1850 by Joseph-Louis Lambot – the inventor of reinforced concrete. Miraval experienced a cultural turning point in 1970 when pianist Jacques Loussier acquired the estate and, in 1977, opened the legendary Miraval Studio, where Pink Floyd recorded "The Wall."

The decisive restart came in 2011 : Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie took over the Domaine in a 50/50 partnership with Marc Perrin. The Perrin family – rooted in the South of France for five generations and known for Château de Beaucastel in the Rhône Valley – assumed winemaking management. Since then, Miraval has lived up to what many prestigious estates only promise: genuine winemaking expertise behind the glamorous name.

Terroir and working methods

The 30 hectares of vineyards around Correns lie at an average altitude of 350 meters . The climate is Mediterranean, but due to the altitude, it is cooler than in the Provençal lowlands – with pronounced day-night temperature fluctuations that preserve the freshness and aromatics of the grapes. The Mistral wind ensures dry air and naturally reduces the risk of disease.

The vineyards are certified organic and cultivated without herbicides or pesticides. Harvesting is done by hand. Bottling takes place in a modern facility owned by the Perrin family, where the dissolved oxygen content is precisely controlled – a crucial factor for the wines' freshness.

The wines

The centerpiece is the Miraval Rosé Côtes de Provence , which was named the best rosé in the world by Wine Spectator in 2013. It is made from the estate's finest parcels – Muriers, Longue, and Romarin – on clay and limestone soils. The Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Rolle grape varieties form the basis for a rosé that combines elegance with Provençal lightness.

The Studio by Miraval line is a tribute to the historic recording studio: The vineyards are surrounded by olive trees and pines, and the proximity to the Mediterranean Sea shapes the style. Available at Vinoscout as a rosé and a blanc.

Fleur de Miraval, launched in 2020, is the most ambitious project: a rosé champagne made from 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir , developed in partnership with champagne producer Rodolphe Péters. The PPP logo stands for Péters, Perrin, and Pitt.

The portfolio is completed by The Gardener Gin , an organically certified French Riviera gin in the London Dry style, which Brad Pitt and the Perrin family developed together with Tom Nichol – the former master distiller of Tanqueray Nº Ten, whom they brought back from retirement specifically for this purpose.
