To understand Domaine Tropez, one must first get to know its grandfather: Tropez Beraud cultivated vineyards on the Saint-Tropez peninsula for decades, simply selling his grapes to the local cooperative. His grandson, Grégoire Chaix , the son of a surgeon and a business graduate, chose a different path in 1996 at the age of 25. He took over the inherited estate, fundamentally restructured it, and founded Domaine Tropez – as a tribute to his grandfather, whose first name now graces the label. The anonymous cooperative operation was transformed into an independent, family-run winery with a distinctive character.

Philosophy: Independence, diligence, freshness

Grégoire Chaix is ​​a member of Vignerons Indépendants , the association of independent winegrowers in France – and this independence shapes every decision in the cellar and the vineyard. From the very beginning, he has refrained from using herbicides and chemical fertilizers, farms with respect for biodiversity, and harvests the grapes exclusively by hand. In the cellar, controlled fermentation temperatures ensure that the aromas of the fruit are preserved.

One detail that is particularly important to Chaix is ​​the screw cap . For him, it's not a cost-cutting measure, but a decision based on quality. He firmly believes: "The screw cap, thanks to its oxygen-impermeable nature, perfectly preserves the freshness and aroma of the wine." For wines designed for vibrancy and fruity purity, this is a consistent approach.

The region: Saint-Tropez between hills and sea

Domaine Tropez is located in Gassin , one of the most picturesque villages in Provence, just a few kilometers from the Côte d'Azur. The approximately 40 hectares of vineyards are spread across about forty individual plots, stretching across the entire Saint-Tropez peninsula – between Ramatuelle, Gassin and La Croix Valmer , partly on hills, partly on the plain.

This diversity is unusual, but intentional: different soils – clayey, calcareous, and partly sandy – and varying exposures bring complexity to the blends. The strongly maritime Mediterranean climate, moderated by cool nights, creates a microclimate with high aromatic potential. The main grape varieties cultivated are Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rolle (Vermentino) , complemented by Cinsault and the indigenous Tibouren variety, which lends the Provençal rosés their characteristic finesse.

The wines: style and appellations

The heart of Domaine Tropez is naturally its rosé wines . They embody the finest traditions of the Côtes de Provence: pale salmon-colored, delicately fruity, dry, and refreshing. The wines bear the appellations AOC Côtes de Provence, IGP Var, and IGP Méditerranée . In addition to the classic Domaine range, Chaix also operates a négociant , through which he markets an additional 50,000 cases under the labels Sand Tropez and Crazy Tropez.
