Carlos I (Primero) Brandy Solera Grand Reserva
Carlos I Solera Gran Reserva is not a quickly bottled brandy, but the result of over 135 years of aging in casks – the oldest solera in Jerez. The distillate matures for at least ten years in ex-sherry casks made of American oak, with the solera process continuously blending older and younger vintages. Produced by Osborne, one of Andalusia's great houses.
In the glass, Carlos I displays a deep mahogany color. The nose offers dried plum, vanilla, and a hint of cedar – the classic hallmarks of extended sherry cask maturation. On the palate, it is soft and rounded, with flavors of dark chocolate, raisins, and caramel. The finish is long, mildly spicy, and without any harshness.
Enjoy neat at room temperature or slightly warmed in a snifter. It also pairs well with a good espresso or dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa. Those who appreciate cognac will find here an Iberian counterpoint with its own unique character.
