Loureiro – aromatic white wine from the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula
Loureiro is one of the most characterful white grape varieties of Portugal and northern Spain. In the Vinoscout assortment, you will find two wines of this variety, both from the Atlantic-influenced border area between the Vinho Verde and Galicia – starting at 11.50 Euro.
Origin & Character
Loureiro grows primarily in the Vinho Verde, the cool northwest of Portugal, as well as in the adjacent Galician part of Spain. The name is derived from laurel – and indeed, the variety carries a fine, slightly herbal note that distinguishes it from other Vinho Verde grape varieties. In the glass, Loureiro shows fresh citrus fruit, white flowers, and a hint of lime, underpinned by lively acidity and a light salty tone that the Atlantic climate shapes. The wines are usually lean, lively, and easy-drinking – ideal for warm evenings, but complex enough to also impress with food.
Pairs well with
- Grilled fish and seafood, especially shrimp or scallops
- Light appetizers with citrus vinaigrette or fresh herbs
- Goat cheese and mild cream cheese
- Summer salads with white meat
