Galicia is not the Spain that most people have in mind. No scorching heat, no bone-dry soils – instead, Atlantic wind, rain, and lush green hills right by the sea. The heart of Galicia is the Albariño, a white grape variety that is more at home here than anywhere else. The wines from the Denominación de Origen Rías Baixas – the region's most famous growing area – are aromatic and fresh, with lively acidity and a character that makes them ideal companions for fish and seafood.
