Saxony – Wines from Germany's easternmost wine-growing region
Saxony is Germany's smallest and easternmost wine-growing region – and that is exactly what makes it so special. The vines grow along the Elbe, primarily around Meißen and Radebeul, in a landscape of steep slopes and sandstone cliffs. The climate is continental: hot summers, cold winters, and plenty of sunshine. The wines produced here carry this character: they are fresh, mineral-driven, and often permeated by a lively acidity that gives them tension and elegance.
White wine in the spotlight
Saxony is clearly a white wine region. Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris show their delicate, dry side here – with depth, but without heaviness. Those looking for something special will find a rarity in Goldriesling, which is grown almost exclusively in Saxony, as well as Elbling, one of the oldest grape varieties in Europe.
