Goldriesling – a Saxon rarity in the glass

Origin & character
Goldriesling originated in the 19th century as a cross between Riesling and Courtillier musqué and was primarily cultivated in the Elbe Valley, where the continental climate and granite weathering soils offer good conditions for the variety. Despite the name, Goldriesling is not a direct relative of the classic Rheingau Riesling – its character and aromatics differ significantly. In the glass, it shows a distinct floral aroma, notes of peach and apricot, as well as a light nutmeg tone that makes the variety unmistakable. The acidity is usually milder than that of Riesling, making the wine appear accessible and fresh. Vinified dry, Goldriesling unfolds a pleasant lightness that makes it an uncomplicated companion for many occasions.
