Origin & character
Carricante has been growing for centuries on the eastern slopes of Mount Etna on Sicilian volcanic soil – one of the few regions in Italy where the vine is truly at home. The mineral-rich lava soils and the cool high altitudes significantly shape the style: Carricante brings a lively, almost salty acidity that clearly distinguishes it from other southern Italian white wines. In the glass, aromas of green apple, citrus peel, and white peach appear, underscored by a characteristic hint of volcanic rock. Well-aged examples develop additional depth with some bottle aging – beeswax, dried herbs, a long mineral finish.
