Aligoté – the other white Burgundy grape

Origin & character
Aligoté is one of the oldest white grape varieties in Burgundy and has been rooted there for centuries. The wines usually carry the appellation Bourgogne Aligoté AOC and come from all over Burgundy, from the Côte d'Or to the Mâconnais. In the glass, it shows a lean, lively white wine with distinct fresh acidity – not a heavyweight, but precise and clear. Typical aromas range between green apple, citrus peel, and a slightly nutty undertone, sometimes supplemented by floral notes. Aligoté is rarely aged in wooden barrels; the steel tank preserves its direct, crisp nature.
Pairs well with
- Oysters and seafood
- Goat cheese and fresh chèvre variations
- Quiche Lorraine or vegetable terrine
- Grilled river perch or trout
- Aperitif pure or as a base for Kir (with Crème de Cassis)
