Negroamaro is one of the most fascinating indigenous grape varieties in Italy. Its name already reveals quite a bit: "negro" for dark and "amaro" for bitter – and indeed this variety carries both within it. The wines show a deep, almost black-red color and a powerful, full-bodied character with dark fruits, spicy notes, and a striking, slightly tart finish. Well-aged examples develop an impressive depth and structure that gains even more elegance with some maturity.

Negroamaro is firmly rooted in Apulia, especially on the Salento peninsula in the extreme south of the Italian boot. There it thrives on barren soils under intense sun and produces wines with a true sense of origin. Well-known appellations such as Salice Salentino and the extensive Salento IGT stand for this variety like no other. Interesting: Negroamaro is also excellently suited for rosé wines, which can turn out fresh, aromatic, and surprisingly complex.
