I Tratturi Negroamaro

I Tratturi Negroamaro
Dark red with violet reflections in the glass — the I Tratturi Negroamaro from Feudi di San Marzano visually demonstrates what Puglia can do: power, depth, and Mediterranean warmth from the Salento.
Feudi di San Marzano is one of the defining wineries in the Salento, the southernmost tip of the Italian boot. The Negroamaro grape variety — literally "black bitter" — has been rooted here for centuries and thrives on the iron-rich, red sandstone soils under the intense Apulian sun to achieve unusual ripeness and depth. The name I Tratturi refers to the old cattle trails of Puglia that wind through the landscape — a nod to this wine's roots in local tradition.
On the nose, it opens with cassis, black cherry, and dark wild fruits, underscored by spicy herbal hints of thyme and Mediterranean maquis shrubland. On the palate, it is full-bodied and juicy: the tannins are ripe and round, well-integrated into the fruit substance without being intrusive. The finish is long, slightly spicy, with a lingering hint of dark berries.

What nineteen winegrowing families from San Marzano di San Giuseppe sealed with a handshake in 1962 is today one of the most renowned names in Apulia: Feudi di San Marzano. Around 1,500 winegrowers cultivate more than 1,200 hectares of vines together in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP, many of them still using the traditional Alberello system – the bush-trained vines that have defined the character of Salento for generations. The red limestone soil, the sun, and the sea breezes between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas shape wines that are powerful yet precise. Every grape is harvested by hand, and chemical fertilizers are strictly avoided.
