In the region around the small town of San Marzano, located almost at the very tip of the heel in Puglia, vines have been cultivated for over 2000 years—a tradition that the San Marzano cooperative respects in all its wines. In this modern cooperative winery, renowned wines are produced from local varieties. At nearly 100 meters above sea level, with high average temperatures and very little rainfall throughout the year, the vines endure year after year. The soil consists mainly of clay, which stores sufficient water during the dry summer months.
I Tratturi is the new line from Feudi di San Marzano, which impresses with an unbeatable price-to-pleasure ratio.

Dark plum and ripe cherry on the nose, spicy on the palate with rosemary and a hint of vanilla. The body is powerful and full, yet well-balanced — a typical Primitivo from the south of Apulia.
Is the wine dry?
Yes, the I Tratturi Primitivo is vinified dry. Despite the full-bodied, fruit-forward character, it does not taste sweet on the palate — the spice maintains the balance.
What does this wine pair best with?
Classically with lamb, beef, or salsiccia from the grill. It also cuts a fine figure with hearty pasta dishes and Southern Italian cheeses like Pecorino or Caciocavallo.
At what temperature should I serve it?
Best between 16 and 18 °C — i.e., slightly cooler than room temperature. Place in a cool room shortly before pouring or in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
How do I store the wine after opening?
Resealed and kept cool, it keeps well for two to three days after opening. A vacuum sealer extends this a bit further.
The Winery
What nineteen winegrower families from San Marzano di San Giuseppe sealed with a handshake in 1962 is today one of the most famous names in Apulia: Feudi di San Marzano.
Around 1,500 winemakers jointly cultivate more than 1,200 hectares of vines in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP, many of them still in the old Alberello system – the bush-trained vines that have given Salento its face for generations.
The red limestone soil, the sun, and the sea breeze between the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea shape wines that are powerful yet precise. Every grape is harvested by hand; chemical fertilizers are left out.
