Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria 1.5L Magnum

In the region around the town of San Marzano, located almost at the southern tip of Puglia, vines have been cultivated for over 3,000 years. This tradition is respectfully continued by the San Marzano cooperative in all its wines. In this modern cooperative winery, renowned wines are produced from local grape varieties. The Primitivo Sessantanni is an excellent example. Made entirely from 60-year-old vines of this local grape variety, the wine undergoes a three-week maceration period before being aged in small wooden barrels for 12 months before bottling. Its color is a deep, dark ruby red, almost black, with violet reflections. On the nose, the Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria offers great complexity, with multifaceted aromas of ripe black berries and cherries paired with spices and hints of licorice and vanilla. The taste is full-bodied, incredibly juicy, and possesses a seemingly endless depth. Luca Maroni evaluates around 12,000 wines in his excellent "Guida dei Vini Italiani 2011." The sheer number of wines submitted for evaluation by Italian winemakers demonstrates the importance they place on his judgment. Outside of Italy, however, this wine guide is less well-known, as it is currently only available in Italian. This is fortunate for you, because it allows us to discover undiscovered gems, such as this Sessantanni Primitivo. Luca Maroni awarded the 2007 vintage 97 points. Clearly, this Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria must be something more: a truly exceptional wine. Mundus Vini: Gold for the 2015 vintage; Lucca Maroni: Best Absolute Italian Wine for the 2015 vintage; Gambero Rosso: Tre Bicchieri / 3 glasses for the 2015 vintage; Concours Mondial de Bruxelles: Gold for 2015

Feudi di San Marzano

What nineteen winegrowing families from San Marzano di San Giuseppe sealed with a handshake in 1962 is today one of the most renowned names in Apulia: Feudi di San Marzano. Around 1,500 winegrowers cultivate more than 1,200 hectares of vines together in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP, many of them still using the traditional Alberello system – the bush-trained vines that have defined the character of Salento for generations. The red limestone soil, the sun, and the sea breezes between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas shape wines that are powerful yet precise. Every grape is harvested by hand, and chemical fertilizers are strictly avoided.
