SUD Primitivo di Manduria
In the region surrounding the town of San Marzano, almost at the southern tip of Puglia, lies the Feudi di San Marzano winery. Vines have been cultivated in this area for over 3,000 years, a tradition that the San Marzano cooperative respectfully honors in all its wines. This modern cooperative winery produces renowned wines from local grape varieties. The Primitivo di Manduria SUD is a prime example. Made entirely from this local grape variety, the wine undergoes a three-week, temperature-controlled maceration period before being gently pressed and then aged in French oak barrels. It rests here for four months before bottling and release. Color: deep, dark ruby red, almost black, with violet reflections. Aroma: On the nose, the Primitivo boasts a very complex and fruity bouquet. Ripe red fruits such as blackberries and elderberries take center stage, accompanied by hints of cocoa and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is very powerful and full-bodied. It is rich and rich, with a beautifully lingering finish. The full aromatic complexity unfolds on the palate. In contrast to its "big brother," the "Sessantanni," this wine is drier with firmer tannins. International Wine & Spirit Competition 2012: Silver medal for the 2010 vintage; Challenge International du Vin 2012: Gold medal for the 2010 vintage; Mundus Vini 2012: Gold medal for the 2010 vintage

What nineteen winegrowing families from San Marzano di San Giuseppe sealed with a handshake in 1962 is today one of the most renowned names in Apulia: Feudi di San Marzano. Around 1,500 winegrowers cultivate more than 1,200 hectares of vines together in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP, many of them still using the traditional Alberello system – the bush-trained vines that have defined the character of Salento for generations. The red limestone soil, the sun, and the sea breezes between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas shape wines that are powerful yet precise. Every grape is harvested by hand, and chemical fertilizers are strictly avoided.
