Touriga Franca – powerful red wine from Portugal

Touriga Franca is one of the most important red grape varieties in Portugal and is currently represented in the Vinoscout range with a small, hand-picked selection – an indication of the level at which this variety is represented here.

Origin & Character

Touriga Franca comes from Portugal and is primarily at home in the Douro Valley, where it is considered the most widely planted red wine variety. It yields deeply colored, tannin-rich wines with an aromatic density that oscillates between dark berries, violets, and spicy herbal notes. Compared to the related Touriga Nacional, it is more accessible and somewhat more fruit-forward, without losing structure. Well-aged examples develop notes of leather, tobacco, and dried plums with maturity. The variety is suitable both as the main component of a cuvée and as a soloist – as with the Conceito Unico Red, which shows the variety in its concentrated form.
