Montepulciano – the juicy red wine of Abruzzo
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is one of the most popular Italian red wines: dark, juicy, uncomplicated, and surprisingly inexpensive. Important in advance – the Montepulciano grape variety has nothing to do with the Tuscan town of the same name, where the Vino Nobile grows from Sangiovese. Origin: Abruzzo and Central Italy
Its home is Abruzzo on the Italian Adriatic coast, where it produces the figurehead Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. It is also widespread in the Marche, Molise, and Apulia and is one of the most widely planted red grapes in Italy. The warm, sunny climate between the Apennines and the sea ensures fully ripe grapes and accessible, fruit-forward wines.
