Marina Cvetic Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC Riserva 1.5L
A Montepulciano in magnum format that needs time – and deserves it. The Marina Cvetic Riserva is one of the most famous wines from Abruzzo and demonstrates what this grape variety can achieve on calcareous-clay soils.
Masciarelli in San Martino sulla Marrucina has been one of the most influential wineries in Abruzzo since the 1980s. Gianni Masciarelli transformed the estate into one of the most modern in the region; after his death in 2008, his wife Marina Cvetic – the namesake of this line – continued to run the winery. The Riserva matures significantly longer than legally required, in French oak barrels, before bottling.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red with violet reflections. The nose offers aromas of blackberry, black plum, and violet, along with an undertone of cedar and dark chocolate from the barrel aging. On the palate, it is full-bodied with ripe, firmly structured tannins and a lively acidity that gives the wine length. The finish is long and spicy, with a hint of tobacco.
Serving temperature: 17–18 °C. Drinking window: now until 2032. The 1.5-liter bottle matures more slowly than the standard bottle – those who are patient will be rewarded.
Pairs well with: braised leg of lamb, venison ragù, mature Pecorino di Fossa or Bistecca alla Fiorentina.
