Cantina Tollo –
Cooperative winegrowers from Abruzzo with character
Cantina Tollo is one of the most influential cooperatives in Abruzzo – founded in 1960 in the village of Tollo, about 20 kilometers from the Adriatic coast. Today, it unites the work of several hundred winegrowing families whose vineyards stretch across the hills of the province of Chieti. The climate here is Mediterranean with continental influences from the Apennines: warm, dry summers, cool nights – ideal conditions for aromatically rich yet fresh wines.
At the heart of the range is Montepulciano d'Abruzzo: a grape variety that finds its most compelling expression in this region. Dark berry fruit, velvety tannins, a spicy finish – this wine pairs well with lamb ragu, grilled meats, or a mature Pecorino cheese. Alongside this, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo demonstrates the freshness and substance that this often underestimated white wine variety can offer: citrusy, with a delicate herbal note, it's excellent with seafood or as an aperitif.
Cantina Tollo is consistently working to reduce its ecological footprint – from irrigation management in the vineyard to energy efficiency in the cellar. The result is wines that bring the character of Abruzzo directly to the glass: down-to-earth, expressive, and straightforward.
