ULISSE Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOP
This Montepulciano d'Abruzzo demonstrates what Abruzzo is capable of when a grape variety is consistently cultivated in its optimal terroir: blackberry, black cherry, and a hint of dark chocolate, supported by vibrant acidity and soft tannins. Aging in stainless steel tanks keeps the fruit fresh and pure—no oak encroaching, just the grape variety in its purest form.
Behind the wine is Tenuta Ulisse, a family-run winery from Abruzzo, managed by brothers Antonio and Luigi Ulisse in the third generation. Their grandfather planted the first vines at the beginning of the 20th century; today, the winery cultivates 55 hectares around Crecchio, Lanciano, and Ortona, spread across inland and coastal vineyards. The grapes are harvested by hand in small 10-kg containers, cooled with dry ice to ensure they arrive at the cellar undamaged.
In the glass, it's juicy and medium-bodied, with well-integrated acidity and a structure that makes it very versatile. Serving temperature 16–18 °C . Pairs well with pasta all'Amatriciana, grilled lamb, or a flavorful local Pecorino cheese.
