Churchill's Dry White Port

The story of Churchill’s is a magnificent success story. The creator and driving force behind the young company is Johnny Graham. His family owned the famous port wine house W. J. Graham. His father sold Graham in the 70s, when Johnny was still in school. Nevertheless, he has port wine in his blood and worked as a winemaker at major port wine houses such as Cockburn’s and Taylor’s. In 1981, he founded his own port wine house with his two brothers. He named it Churchill’s, after his wife, whose surname is Churchill.

Johnny Graham’s ambition is to produce only top wines. Piece by piece, he created the conditions for this. His own grapes from the Cima Corgo, A-sites of the best region and the best vineyards. The grapes are harvested by hand, carefully sorted and trodden by foot in lagares (large stone basins). Churchill’s is one of the port wine houses that controls the entire production process itself.

The results are stunning. Robert Parker awarded 93 points to the 1985 Vintage Port alone. At the 2002 International Wine Challenge, Churchill’s achieved a huge success. Three of its Vintage Ports received a gold medal, another three a silver medal, and the '85 Vintage Port won the Top Trophy. This means Churchill’s has received more medals than any other port wine house.

The 2011 vintage is an exceptional year. Here, their Vintage Port was able to bag a whopping 97 points from the Wine Spectator.
