Gérard Bertrand –
Biodynamic viticulture in the heart of the Languedoc
Gérard Bertrand is one of the defining figures of the modern Languedoc. Having grown up in the south of France, he took over his father's winery and consistently developed it into one of the most renowned estates in the region – with several properties today between Narbonne and the Corbières, each with its own character and terroir.
Since the early 2000s, Bertrand has focused on organic and biodynamic viticulture. All his estates are Demeter-certified or in the process of achieving this certification. This means: no synthetic pesticides, work according to the lunar calendar, and living soils. The Languedoc region , with its dry Mediterranean climate, limestone and schist soils, and over 300 days of sunshine a year, provides the perfect foundation – grapes with natural ripeness and distinctive character.
In the glass, this is evident in red wines with depth and Mediterranean spice – garrigue, dark fruit, firm tannins – as well as in white wines that retain freshness and vibrancy despite the southern heat. Those seeking wines that don't hide their origin will find a wide selection at Bertrand: from approachable everyday wines to age-worthy cuvées made from old vines.
