Nugarus – Sardinian white wine with depth
Nuragus is one of the oldest grape varieties in Sardinia and is now rarely found outside the island. At Vinoscout, we currently offer a wine made from this variety – the Argiolas S'Elegas Nuragus di Cagliari DOC – starting at 9.95 euros.
Origin & character
The variety has been rooted in southern Sardinia for centuries, especially around Cagliari, where it bears the DOC designation Nuragus di Cagliari. It is considered one of the most widely planted white grape varieties on the island and is closely linked to Sardinian wine culture. In the glass, Nuragus shows a light, fresh style: bright citrus fruit, green apple, sometimes a floral hint, and a lively acidity that makes the wine particularly enjoyable in summer. The alcohol usually remains moderate, the finish clean and uncomplicated – a wine that doesn't make a big fuss, but works reliably.
Pairs well with
- Grilled fish and seafood, especially mussels and prawns
- Light antipasti, goat cheese, and Sardinian flatbreads like Pane Carasau
- Summer salads with citrus dressing or fresh herbs
