Mantonico
The Mantonico grape is a hidden gem of Calabria. If you enjoy wines that show character and tell a story, you'll love this selection. The Statti Mantonico delights with delicate notes of orange blossom and a texture almost reminiscent of a red wine – refreshing yet profound. In contrast, the Librandi Le Passule Val di Neto Passito demonstrates what a dessert wine should be: opulent, with aromas of ripe bananas and honey. It pairs perfectly with Gorgonzola or duck liver pâté.Filters

Mantonico – white rarity from Calabria
Mantonico is one of the oldest indigenous grape varieties in Calabria and is hardly to be found in German-speaking countries. At Vinoscout, there is currently one wine of this variety – the Statti Mantonico Calabria IGT – starting at 28.99 euros.
Origin & Character
The variety grows in the deep south of Italy, where the Calabrian climate with intense sunlight and dry summers ensures concentrated, full-bodied white wines. Mantonico brings a powerful structure that clearly distinguishes it from light summer drops: in the glass, aromas of ripe yellow fruits such as apricot and quince appear, plus notes of honey, almond, and dried herbs. The acidity is moderate, the body dense, and the finish long. Traditionally, Mantonico is also developed as a Passito wine – from dried grapes, which further increases the sweetness and concentration. Developed dry, it is a serious white wine with aging potential.
Pairs well with
- Grilled fish and seafood from the Mediterranean
- Aged hard cheeses such as Pecorino or Parmigiano Reggiano
- Strongly spiced pasta dishes with anchovies or bottarga
- Roasted white meat with Mediterranean herbs
