Frappato – light red wine from Sicily
Frappato is one of Sicily's most charming red wine varieties: fruity, transparent, and with a lightness that one does not necessarily expect from the island. In our range, you can currently find a wine of this variety, starting at 15.70 euros.
Origin & Character
Frappato comes from the southeast of Sicily, where the variety has been grown for centuries. Its most famous terrain is the region around Vittoria, where it is blended with Nero d'Avola to create the Cerasuolo di Vittoria cuvée – the only DOCG in Sicily. Whether varietal or in a blend, Frappato shows a bright ruby red and a distinctly fragrant profile: strawberry, wild cherry, dried violets, sometimes a hint of white pepper. The tannins are fine, the acidity is lively, and the body is slender. This makes it a red wine that also works slightly chilled – unusual for Sicily, but fitting for this variety.
