Donnafugata Logo: stilisierte Frau mit wehendem Haar, Symbol des sizilianischen Weinguts Donnafugata

Donnafugata

Donnafugata – “woman on the run.” The name references the novel “Il Gattopardo” and the story of a queen who found refuge precisely where the vineyards now lie. This is the inspiration for the logo. Giacomo Rallo founded the winery in 1983 with his wife Gabriella. He came from a family with over 160 years of experience in quality winemaking and revolutionized the style of Sicilian wines. Until his death in 2016, he led the winery with vision. Today, José and Antonio Rallo, the fifth generation, manage a team of professionals who share excellence and the Italian way of life with the world – always seeking new challenges.

Donnafugata –
Sicily in its fifth generation

Donnafugata bears a name steeped in history: "Woman on the Run"—an allusion to the novel "Il Gattopardo" and the legend of a queen who once sought refuge in this region. Right where the rows of vines stand today, the winery was established in 1983 by Giacomo Rallo and his wife Gabriella, building upon a family tradition of over 160 years in Sicilian winemaking.

Rallo profoundly shaped the style of Sicilian wines: away from anonymous blended wines and towards single-varietal, vineyard-specific wines with a clear sense of origin. Until his death in 2016, he guided the winery with the vision of a true leader. Today, his children, José and Antonio Rallo, run the estate in the fifth generation – with vineyards in Sicily itself, on the volcanic island of Pantelleria, and around Marsala.

What distinguishes Donnafugata is the combination of craftsmanship and curiosity: The family consistently works with autochthonous varieties such as Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascalese and Zibibbo, constantly seeking new forms of expression – without losing their connection to the island.
