Donnafugata Tancredi Dolce&Gabbana Terre Siciliane
The Tancredi from Donnafugata is a prime example of what Sicily can do when local grape varieties meet international craftsmanship: dark, multi-layered, with real aging potential.
The Donnafugata winery has been in Sicilian hands for generations and manages vineyards in the southwest of the island as well as on Pantelleria. The Tancredi – named after the character from Tomasi di Lampedusa's The Leopard – combines Nero d'Avola with Cabernet Sauvignon and is aged in barriques. The result: a wine with a Sicilian soul and a classic framework.
In the glass, the 2021 shows an intense, dark ruby red. On the nose, dried plums and blueberries, underneath licorice, tobacco, and a hint of vanilla. On the palate, dry and powerful, with velvety, fine-limbed tannins – the wood is well-integrated, not dominant. The finish is long and spicy. Falstaff rates the vintage with 93 points.

Donnafugata – “woman on the run.” The name references the novel “Il Gattopardo” and the story of a queen who found refuge precisely where the vineyards now lie. This is the inspiration for the logo. Giacomo Rallo founded the winery in 1983 with his wife Gabriella. He came from a family with over 160 years of experience in quality winemaking and revolutionized the style of Sicilian wines. Until his death in 2016, he led the winery with vision. Today, José and Antonio Rallo, the fifth generation, manage a team of professionals who share excellence and the Italian way of life with the world – always seeking new challenges.
