Alfrocheiro
Alfrocheiro is one of Portugal's most exciting red grape varieties and a true insider tip for those who love wines with character. It originates primarily in the Dão region, where it was first mentioned in 1791 and is now considered one of the most important red grape varieties. What makes them so special is their natural balance of intense fruit and elegant structure. In the glass, it displays a dense, deep ruby red color and has an alluring aroma of ripe cherries, blackberries and wild berries, often accompanied by floral notes such as violets and a subtle spicy note. On the palate, it presents itself as powerful and dense, but never heavy – with a lively, balanced acidity and fine-grained, supple tannins. Origin & character
Alfrocheiro is an old Portuguese grape variety that is primarily grown in the Alentejo and Dão regions. The variety produces deeply colored, dense red wines that stand out due to their lively acidity and fine tannin structure – unusual for the warm climate of the Alentejo. In the glass, dark berry fruits such as blackberry and plum appear, complemented by floral notes of violets and a spicy, slightly mineral finish. Well-aged examples develop additional complexity with some maturity: leather, dried herbs, and a pleasantly long finish.
