Sparkling wine at Vinoscout: Champagne, Franciacorta, Crémant, and Prosecco in comparison
The sparkling wine collection at Vinoscout includes over 450 bottles from France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, and Great Britain. The focus is on Champagne, Franciacorta, Crémant from the Loire Valley, Prosecco from the Veneto, and Sekt from the Palatinate. The selection ranges from uncomplicated tank-fermented wines to prestige cuvées with long yeast aging.
Style & Taste
Sparkling wine differs primarily in production method, grape variety, and sugar level. Tank fermentation, for example in steel tanks, produces fresh, fruit-forward wines. Aromas of green apple, pear, and citrus are typical. Bottle fermentation brings finer perlage and more depth, often with notes of brioche, almond, and roasted nuts.
Chardonnay and Pinot Noir characterize Champagne, Franciacorta, and many Crémants. Chardonnay stands for freshness, citrus, and slenderness. Pinot Noir brings body and a trace of red fruit. Glera is the grape variety of Prosecco and provides light, floral-fruity wines. Riesling from the Palatinate ensures clear acidity and stone fruit aromas in Sekt.
The sugar level is on the label. Extra Brut is very dry and pairs with oysters and seafood. Brut is dry and the most versatile style for aperitif and food. Extra Dry appears somewhat fruitier, Trocken and off-dry are noticeably milder. Luscious sparkling wines pair with desserts and mature cheese. The barrique barrel is also used and gives some cuvées spice and creaminess.

Origin & Subcategories
France is the defining country of origin with Champagne and the Loire Valley. In the France collection you will find both, in the Champagne collection all Champagnes bundled. The Loire provides Crémant, which is produced using the same method as Champagne, but is usually much more accessible.
Italy stands for diversity. Prosecco comes from the Veneto; you can find the grape variety for it under Glera. The region itself has its own page: Veneto. Franciacorta in Lombardy and the sparkling wines from South Tyrol and Trentino show bottle fermentation at a high level. More on this in the Italy collection.
Germany is represented with the Germany collection, the Palatinate particularly strongly: Palatinate. There, Sekts are created from Riesling and Pinot Noir. If you are looking by grape variety, the Chardonnay page also helps. In addition, there are wines from Catalonia, Austria, and Great Britain.
