The cellar master and driving force behind the winery is Christoph Hammel , supported by Winfried Stöckl. The fact that this family winery, over 300 years old, has transformed into a modern, stylish operation is due in no small part to Christoph's experiences in South Africa, which continue to shape his perspective on red and rosé wines.

Philosophy: Tradition meets cellar technology

The Hammels state their ambition unpretentiously: "If our wine brings joy, then we've done everything right in the vineyard and the cellar." Behind this lies a consistent approach. In the vineyard, traditions are upheld – in the best locations, the grapes are selectively harvested by hand, precisely at the optimal ripening point. In the cellar, however, the Hammels focus on innovation: in 2015, the facility underwent a comprehensive modernization and was brought up to the latest technological standards.

The winery's guiding principle is the combination of wood and steel aging . It's not a dogmatic either-or approach, but rather a targeted use of both methods depending on the grape variety and the character of the vintage. The grapes are gently processed in the historic natural stone cellar, whose variegated sandstone vaults ensure a naturally stable cellar climate. Eichelmann attests to the winery's "successful interpretations of grape varieties"—Gault Millau, Falstaff, and Vinum have also spoken highly of it.

The winery is located north of Bad Dürkheim , directly on the German Wine Route, in one of Germany's mildest climate zones. Kirchheim itself is a winegrowing community with over 1200 years of history – the estate's vineyards surround the historic village center. A wide range of grape varieties are cultivated on 42 hectares , of which around 40 percent are planted with red grape varieties.

Among the best single vineyard sites are the Kirchheimer Steinacker , the Kleinkarlbacher Herrenberg , the Dirmsteiner Mandelpfad , and the Bissersheimer Held . These names represent the diversity of the northern Mittelhaardt terroir, which favors Riesling as well as Pinot Noir and international white wine varieties.

The wine is aged half in stainless steel and half in oak, which gives it structure and aromatic depth without sacrificing its freshness.
