Hammel & Cie Pfälzer Freiheit dry

An uncomplicated red wine from the Palatinate region that delivers exactly what it promises: dark fruit, warmth and an easy-drinking character.

Hammel & Cie is one of the oldest wineries in the Palatinate, with roots dating back to the 18th century and based in Kirchheim an der Weinstraße. The Palatinate is one of the warmest German wine regions – a fact clearly reflected in this cuvée.

A brilliant ruby red in the glass. The nose offers aromas of blackberry and black cherry, underpinned by a hint of vanilla from the oak barrel aging. On the palate, it is full-bodied with soft tannins; the blend of Dornfelder, Pinot Noir, and Saint Laurent delivers juicy red and dark fruit, medium length, and a dry, smooth finish.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Ideal with pasta with tomato sauce, grilled sausages, or an evening on the terrace without demanding much from the glass.

Weingut Hammel & Cie

Since 1723, the Hammel & Cie winery in Kirchheim an der Weinstraße has been one of the reliable addresses in the Palatinate – today, Christoph Hammel is already running the business in the ninth generation. You can feel almost three centuries of family tradition in every bottle: this is not about short-term trends, but about consistency that has grown over generations.

On 42 hectares around the historic village center of Kirchheim, Riesling, Burgundy varieties, Sauvignon Blanc, and now also Grüner Veltliner grow – and in one of the mildest climate regions in Germany. This special warmth, combined with the diverse soils of the Palatinate, gives the grapes a ripeness that you can taste in the end in the glass. In the vineyard, the family sticks to proven traditions; in the cellar, they consciously rely on the targeted use of steel and wood to give each grape variety exactly the framework it needs.

The result is wines with a clear signature and aromatic fruit that deliver exactly what the family itself formulates as its leitmotif: to bring joy. Whether for an uncomplicated evening or a special occasion – at Hammel & Cie you will find wines that combine tradition and Palatinate joie de vivre in a completely natural way.
