Hammel & Cie A Day at the Seaside Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc from the Palatinate — vinified with an unusual split: one half matures on the fine lees in stainless steel tanks, the other in wooden barrels. The result is a white wine that combines fresh fruit aromas with palpable structure without tipping in one direction.

Weingut Hammel & Cie is one of the oldest family businesses in the Palatinate and has relied on artisanal vinification for generations. The “Ein Tag am Meer” is part of a line that combines accessible everyday enjoyment with stylistic ambition.

On the nose, the glass opens with kiwi and passion fruit, followed by grapefruit and a hint of rhubarb. In the mouth, a mineral note comes to the fore, which carries the ripe fruit profile and lengthens the finish. The texture is dense but never heavy — the wooden barrel portion provides body without imposing roasted aromas.

Logo des Weinguts Hammel & Cie aus Kirchheim an der Deutschen Weinstraße, gegründet 1723.

Weingut Hammel & Cie

Since 1723, the Hammel & Cie winery in Kirchheim an der Weinstraße has been one of the reliable addresses in the Palatinate – today, Christoph Hammel is already running the business in the ninth generation. You can feel almost three centuries of family tradition in every bottle: this is not about short-term trends, but about consistency that has grown over generations.

On 42 hectares around the historic village center of Kirchheim, Riesling, Burgundy varieties, Sauvignon Blanc, and now also Grüner Veltliner grow – and in one of the mildest climate regions in Germany. This special warmth, combined with the diverse soils of the Palatinate, gives the grapes a ripeness that you can taste in the end in the glass. In the vineyard, the family sticks to proven traditions; in the cellar, they consciously rely on the targeted use of steel and wood to give each grape variety exactly the framework it needs.

The result is wines with a clear signature and aromatic fruit that deliver exactly what the family itself formulates as its leitmotif: to bring joy. Whether for an uncomplicated evening or a special occasion – at Hammel & Cie you will find wines that combine tradition and Palatinate joie de vivre in a completely natural way.
