Hammel & Cie Liebfraumilch semi-dry

Liebfraumilch was once the flagship of German wines abroad. Due to quality issues in recent decades, Liebfraumilch has fallen somewhat into disrepute internationally. The Hammel & Cie winery now aims to counter this with a high-quality Liebfraumilch from the Palatinate region. One of the distinctive features of Liebfraumilch is that while at least 70% of the grape varieties must be German (Riesling, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, and Kerner), they cannot be explicitly named. Furthermore, it must have a minimum residual sugar content of 18 grams per liter. A juicy, fresh, and fruity wine that might just restore Liebfraumilch to its former glory!

Weingut Hammel & Cie

Since 1723, the Hammel & Cie winery in Kirchheim an der Weinstraße has been one of the reliable addresses in the Palatinate – today, Christoph Hammel is already running the business in the ninth generation. You can feel almost three centuries of family tradition in every bottle: this is not about short-term trends, but about consistency that has grown over generations.

On 42 hectares around the historic village center of Kirchheim, Riesling, Burgundy varieties, Sauvignon Blanc, and now also Grüner Veltliner grow – and in one of the mildest climate regions in Germany. This special warmth, combined with the diverse soils of the Palatinate, gives the grapes a ripeness that you can taste in the end in the glass. In the vineyard, the family sticks to proven traditions; in the cellar, they consciously rely on the targeted use of steel and wood to give each grape variety exactly the framework it needs.

The result is wines with a clear signature and aromatic fruit that deliver exactly what the family itself formulates as its leitmotif: to bring joy. Whether for an uncomplicated evening or a special occasion – at Hammel & Cie you will find wines that combine tradition and Palatinate joie de vivre in a completely natural way.
