Hammel & Cie Local Hero Riesling & Sauvignon Blanc off-dry

Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc — two grape varieties that at first glance have little in common, but here create a harmonious cuvée: fruity and aromatic on the one hand, firm and mineral on the other.

Behind this local favorite is the Hammel & Cie winery from the Palatinate, one of the region's most traditional family-run wineries. The name says it all: no exoticism, no stylistic experiments, just an honest, everyday wine from their home region.

In the glass, the cuvée displays aromas of white peach, elderflower, and a hint of grapefruit—the Sauvignon Blanc provides the aromatic freshness, while the Riesling contributes a cool minerality on the finish. At just above dry, a gram of residual sugar remains perceptible without weighing the wine down: the acidity maintains the balance.

Hammel & Cie Winery

Since 1723, the Hammel & Cie winery in Kirchheim an der Weinstraße has been one of the most trusted names in the Palatinate region – today, Christoph Hammel runs the estate in the ninth generation. On 42 hectares surrounding the historic village center of Kirchheim, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and now also Grüner Veltliner grapes thrive in one of Germany's mildest climate regions. In the vineyard, the Hammel family adheres to time-honored traditions, while in the cellar, they focus on the judicious use of steel and oak. The result is wines with a distinct character, aromatic fruit, and a guiding principle that the family themselves describe as: bringing joy.
