Banfi Stilnovo Governo all'Uso Toscano – Banfi (Italy, Tuscany)
The Banfi winery in Montalcino uses the traditional Governo method for the Stilnovo: a portion of the grapes is dried and added later, which gives the wine a special fullness and liveliness. In the nose, ripe cherries, plums, and a hint of clove; on the palate, soft, round, and with a velvety finish. Immediately accessible, without waiting time – good with pasta with meat sauce or pizza from the wood-fired oven.
Crazy Gaul Red dry – Matthias Gaul (Germany, Palatinate)
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Tempranillo in a Palatinate cuvée – the Tempranillo brings a distinctly Spanish influence. The result is a soft, velvety composition with a beguiling fruit note, juicy and lively in the mouth. An everyday wine with character that shows how openly the Palatinate now thinks about other wine regions.
Philipp Kuhn Mano Negra Red Wine Cuvée dry – Weingut Philipp Kuhn (Germany, Palatinate)
The name comes from the black-stained hands that working with Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon leaves behind. Both grape varieties mature for 17 months in barriques – you can tell: cherries, cassis, and prunes in the nose, plus a peppery-spicy note and ripe tannins in the finish. The most serious red wine in the pack, good with game poultry, lamb, or mature hard cheese.
