Two wines show particularly well what the pack stands for. The Pierpaolo Pecorari Chardonnay Venezia Giulia IGT comes from San Lorenzo Isontino in the Collio border region, where alpine coolness and Adriatic freshness shape the climate. Pecorari ferments his grapes from the region's leafy clay marl at controlled cool temperatures of 19–21 °C in barrels; weekly batonnage provides texture. Not a butter-heavy barrique style, but something leaner: ripe apple, hazelnut, clear acidity, long finish. On the other side of the spectrum is the Studier Sommersemester Cuvée off-dry from the Palatinate – Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay in equal parts. Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc provide freshness and contour, Chardonnay rounds it off and softens the acidity peaks. In the glass, gooseberry, melon, and fresh apple; a small amount of residual sweetness holds fruit and acidity together without appearing heavy.
The Marqués de Cáceres Verdejo Rueda Blanco also deserves a closer look: Verdejo from the Castilian plateau, where large day-night temperature differences sharpen the grape's aromatics. In the glass, grapefruit, white peach, and a fine bitter almond note, plus lively acidity and a dry finish. In addition, there is the Roveglia Lugana Limne DOC from Lake Garda with green apple and soft acidity, the Hammel & Cie “Ein Tag am Meer” Sauvignon Blanc from the Palatinate with kiwi, passion fruit, and grapefruit, as well as the Winzer Sommerach Sommerlust Rotling with strawberry, red currant, and white peach – a light, uncomplicated summer wine made from red and white grapes pressed together.
Pairs well with: grilled fish with lemon-herb butter, salads with goat cheese, roasted vegetables, or an uncomplicated evening with friends on the terrace. The white wines taste best well-chilled at 8–10 °C; the Rotling benefits from slightly stronger cooling.
