Four bottles, two red, two white: With this pack, you will get to know Casa Rojo, a Spanish winery that makes wine in several locations and lets each region express its own character. The house is led by José Luis Gómez and is based in the Paraje de La Raja in the Murcia region. From there, the pack reaches all the way to Ribera del Duero in the Castilian highlands.

The reds. El Clon 98 is Tempranillo from the DO Ribera del Duero, pure and direct: blackberry and cassis, plus licorice and herbs, fresh on the attack, with silky tannins and a long finish. Las Viñas Bastardas combines the north and south of the house in a blend of Monastrell, Syrah and Garnacha from the Tierra de Murcia. It is powerful yet fresh, with a silky texture, ripe fruit and a fine mineral touch from the limestone soils.
The whites. El Levan is the project that started it all for José Luis Gómez in the 90s: a Chardonnay with a Mediterranean character, straw-gold in the glass, with white fruit and citrus, fresh and with distinct minerality from the limestone soil. El Gordo del Circo is the house's classic white, a Verdejo with citrus, fennel, mango and apple, full and fresh at the same time, spicy and long.
Pairs well with. The reds accompany grilled dishes, lamb and tapas, the whites fish, seafood and grilled vegetables. For the El Levan, the winery recommends oven-baked octopus. Serve the reds at 14 to 16 °C, the whites well chilled at 8 to 10 °C.
In the pack, you pay less than for the four bottles individually. A good introduction if you want to get to know Spain beyond Rioja, and a lovely gift. And if you want more afterwards: the Experience Casa Rojo pack contains six more wines from the house, none of them duplicates.
