Scavi & Ray

From New York to Veneto – the story of Scavi & Ray
The origins of Scavi & Ray date back to 1963. Joe Scavi and Carluccio Ray , two Italian-Americans who ran a thriving advertising agency in New York with clients from the international fashion scene, set out to explore their ancestral homeland in Northern Italy. In the province of Treviso in the Veneto region, they discovered a vineyard for sale – and the decision was quickly made: This was where they wanted to establish a new business and indulge their passion for sparkling wines. From the late-ripening, white Glera grapes, their first fresh, delicately aromatic Prosecco was created – the birth of Scavi & Ray Winery.
Since 2005 , MBG International Premium Brands GmbH, based in Paderborn, has held the worldwide distribution rights. The close connection to the fashion world and show business that the two founders brought with them continues to shape the brand today: Scavi & Ray is present at European Fashion Weeks, high-profile red carpet events, and international VIP events – and is now marketed in more than 50 countries worldwide.
Wines & Style
The clear centerpiece of the range is Prosecco . Scavi & Ray offers both classic quality levels:
- Prosecco DOC : made from Glera grapes from the protected designation of origin in Veneto, as Frizzante (gentle perlage, approx. 10.5% vol.) and as Spumante (second fermentation according to the Metodo Martinotti, approx. 11% vol.)
- Prosecco Valdobbiadene DOCG Superiore : from the area between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, which received DOCG status in 2009 and covers approximately 6,500 hectares – the flagship wine of the estate, with characteristic aromas of apple, pear, citrus and delicate floral notes.
- Prosecco DOC Rosé Spumante : 88% Glera, 12% Pinot Nero – fruity, with peach blossom notes
Beyond Prosecco, Scavi & Ray demonstrates its broader Italian reach: The Ca' Scavi Lugana DOC is made entirely from the Trebbiano di Lugana grape (also known as Turbiana di Lugana), cultivated in the eponymous DOC region on the southern shore of Lake Garda – a fresh, fruity white wine with notes of citrus, apple, and apricot. The Primitivo Salento IGT from Apulia, a full-bodied red wine, completes the still wine selection: deep dark red, with aromas of dark berries, cherry, bay leaf, and a hint of chocolate.
The portfolio is rounded off by ready-mixed aperitif creations: The Sprizz Aperitivo combines Prosecco with bitter orange liqueur (5.5% vol.), the Hugo Aperitivo brings elderflower, mint and Prosecco into the bottle – uncomplicated enjoyment for convivial moments.
Region & Terroir
The home of the sparkling Scavi & Ray wines is Veneto in northeastern Italy – one of the country's most important wine-growing regions. The Glera grape thrives on the hilly slopes between Treviso, Conegliano, and Valdobbiadene, where pronounced day-night temperature fluctuations ensure a particularly vibrant freshness. With Lugana, Scavi & Ray draws on another classic northern Italian growing region, and with Salento Primitivo, finally, on the sun-drenched south of Apulia.
