Berlucchi Franciacorta Cuvée 61 DOCG Extra Brut
Berlucchi's Franciacorta Cuvée 61 Extra Brut is crisp, rich, and elegant, with a long finish and beautiful depth. It generously presents aromas of apple and pear, along with notes of tropical fruits and subtle hints of spice. It displays exceptional freshness and vibrant acidity on the palate with a velvety texture and fine balance, finishing with appealing citrus notes. In the winter following the harvest, Berlucchi begins the "prove di cuvée," or "cuvée selection" process. More than 200 base wines are tasted to create the character of future Franciacortas. In 1961, Franco Ziliani established the first Franciacorta bottle fermentation, modeled after Champagne, in the historic underground cellars of the small village of Borgonato, located at the southern end of Lake Iseo. To commemorate this event and honor this achievement, Berlucchi created the Cuvée '61.

Guido Berlucchi from Borgonato in Franciacorta is the winery that bottled the very first Franciacorta in 1961 – a mere 3,000 bottles at the time, now around 4.5 million per year. Founded in 1955 by Count Guido Berlucchi and oenologist Franco Ziliani, the winery embodies the unwavering conviction that Lombardy can produce a sparkling wine that rivals the best in the world. Since 2016, their 515 hectares of vineyards south of Lake Iseo have been certified organic, and the Mille1Vigna project precisely links each wine to its soil type. Today, Franco's children Cristina, Arturo, and Paolo run the family business – and Gambero Rosso named them "Winery of the Year" in 2022.
