Berlucchi Franciacorta Cuvée 61 Rosé DOCG Brut

The Berlucchi Franciacorta Cuvée 61 Rosé Brut is a classic sparkling wine from Lombardy – produced using the traditional method of bottle fermentation, first implemented by Franco Ziliani in 1961 in the historic cellars of Borgonato on Lake Iseo. Cuvée 61 is the direct monument to this pioneering achievement.

Pale pink in the glass. On the nose, wild red berries, ripe stone fruit, and a warm finish from the Pinot Noir. The acidity is fresh and precise. After the spring tirage, the rosé matures on the lees for at least 24 months, followed by a further two months of cellar rest after disgorgement – significantly exceeding the DOCG minimum requirements.

As an aperitif, with salmon carpaccio, prawns or light risotto variations. Serving temperature: 7–9 °C.

How does the Berlucchi Cuvée 61 Rosé taste?

Pale pink in the glass, with wild red berries and ripe stone fruit in the nose – carried by a fresh, precise acid structure. The Pinot Noir gives the Rosé a warm, fruity finish without heaviness.

Is the Franciacorta dry or does it have residual sugar?

It is classified as Brut – meaning dry with minimal residual sugar. The fruit aromas seem ripe, but the acidity remains clearly in the foreground.

What does the Cuvée 61 Rosé pair best with?

It works well as an aperitif, but also with salmon carpaccio, shrimp, oysters, or a light risotto. The acid structure stands up to seafood without overpowering it.

At what temperature should I serve it?

Ideally between 7 and 9 °C – well-chilled, but not ice-cold. Too cold dampens the aromas; too warm and the perlage loses its freshness.

What distinguishes Franciacorta from Prosecco or Crémant?

Franciacorta DOCG is made like Champagne through bottle fermentation – the Cuvée 61 Rosé ages for at least 24 months on the lees, significantly above the DOCG minimum requirement. Prosecco, on the other hand, is produced using the tank method and ages for a shorter time.

How should I store the bottle?

Lying down, dark, and at a constant cool temperature – ideally between 10 and 14 °C. After opening, seal with a sparkling wine stopper and drink within one to two days.

The Winery

Guido Berlucchi from Borgonato in Franciacorta is the house that brought the first Franciacorta ever into the bottle in 1961 – at that time just 3,000 bottles, today around 4.5 million per year.

Founded in 1955 by Count Guido Berlucchi and the oenologist Franco Ziliani, the winery stands for the consistent conviction that Lombardy can produce a sparkling wine that can keep up with the best in the world. Since 2016, the 515 hectares of vineyards south of Lake Iseo have been certified organic, and the Mille1Vigna project precisely links every wine to its soil type.

Today, Franco's children Cristina, Arturo, and Paolo lead the family business – and Gambero Rosso named them "Winery of the Year" in 2022.
