Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Héritiers Louis Jadot in HK

The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru from Louis Jadot is one of the great white Burgundies of all time – a Chardonnay that combines power and finesse in rare density.

Louis Jadot is one of the most significant Négociant houses of the Côte d'Or, founded in 1859 in Beaune. The Héritiers line stands for wines from their own vineyard holdings, including parcels on the Corton-Charlemagne – one of the few white Grands Crus of the Côte de Beaune, whose vines stand on calcareous, iron-rich soil on the southwest and west flank of the Corton hill. This exposure gives the wine its typical combination of ripe fruit and mineral austerity.

In the glass, the wine shows aromas of white peach, toasted almonds, and beeswax, underpinned by flint and a hint of butter cookies from the aging in wooden barrels. The palate is dense and oily in texture, the acidity precise and long-lasting – not a wine for impatient evenings. The finish is long, salty-mineral, and lasts well over a minute.
