Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques

Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques
The Clos Saint-Jacques is one of the most coveted sites in Gevrey-Chambertin – rated by many critics at Grand Cru level, although it is officially classified as a Premier Cru. Louis Jadot, one of the most significant Négociant houses of the Côte d'Or with roots in 1859, vinifies this site with the respect that such a terroir demands.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red. The bouquet opens with sour cherry and cassis, underneath violets, a hint of cedarwood, and fine earth – typical for the iron-rich, clay-limestone soil of the site. On the palate, medium to full body, fine-grained tannins, and a lively acidity that gives the wine tension and length. The finish is long, spicy, with an aftertaste of blackberry and tobacco.
- Temperature: 16–18 °C
- Food: Braised leg of lamb, wild boar loin with mushroom jus, ripe Époisses or Comté
