Diciotto Colline Primitivo di Manduria Riserva DOC

Primitivo di Manduria stands for power and warmth – and the Diciotto Colline from Torrevento shows what happens when this energy is tamed through Riserva aging. 93 points in Falstaff and a gold medal at Mundus Vini 2025 for the 2018 vintage are no coincidence, but rather proof of a winery that takes its Apulian roots seriously.

Torrevento is one of the leading producers in the Castel del Monte region and consistently brings out the unique characteristics of Primitivo: fully ripened grapes from the hinterland of Manduria, aged in oak barrels. The result is a deep, dark red wine with aromas of blackberry, plum, and dried figs, along with vanilla and a hint of cedar from the barrel aging. On the palate, it is dense but not heavy – the tannins are soft, the finish is long and slightly cocoa-like.

Pairs well with braised lamb, venison ragù, or mature Pecorino cheese. Serve at 16–18 °C ; decant for an hour before drinking. Aging it for another 2–3 years will reward you with additional depth.

Torrevento

Torrevento from Corato in Apulia bears its name for good reason: "Tower of the Wind"—for it is the constant wind over the Alta Murgia that provides natural ventilation to the vines and has given the winery its identity for generations. The Liantonio family's story begins in 1913, when the grandfather of the current president, Francesco Liantonio, emigrated to New York at the age of 16. He returned in 1923 and in 1948 acquired a 17th-century Baroque Benedictine monastery along with 57 hectares of vineyards. Today, Torrevento cultivates 500 hectares throughout Apulia and is considered one of the most dedicated advocates of indigenous grape varieties such as Nero di Troia, Primitivo, and Negroamaro. Multiple Gambero Rosso awards, including the Tre Bicchieri (Three Glasses), attest to the fact that this commitment is reflected in the wine.
