Product description

Six bottles, one wine, one clear decision: Anyone who has ever tasted the as, if! Appassimento Primitivo from Torrevento will immediately reach for the multipack next time. This value pack is aimed at all those who appreciate the Apulian Appassimento style – concentrated, full-bodied, with southern warmth – and don't want to constantly reorder it.

The appassimento method is key to this wine: After harvesting, the Primitivo grapes are left to wilt on straw mats or in drying rooms before fermentation. The loss of water concentrates the sugars, aromas, and tannins – the same principle as with Amarone from Valpolicella, but here implemented with the Primitivo grape from the Mezzogiorno. Torrevento cultivates its vineyards in the province of Terra di Bari, not far from the Alta Murgia National Park – one of Italy's hottest and driest wine regions, which imparts its characteristic ripeness to the Primitivo.

In the glass, the as, if! Appassimento Primitivo displays a deep ruby red with purple reflections. On the nose, it opens with aromas of candied orange peel, Amarena cherry, and rose petals, underpinned by a spicy coffee note derived from the extended wilting process. On the palate, it is juicy and full-bodied, with noticeable yet well-integrated spice and a long, warm finish. No harsh tannins here – the wine is approachable without being generic.

This goes well with: braised lamb, venison ragù with pappardelle, strong hard cheeses such as pecorino stagionato or aged cheddar. It's also a good choice with slow-cooked beef that has developed a nice crust. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.

Six bottles also represent a concrete price argument: compared to buying them individually, you save significantly – ideal for storing wine as a supply for evenings with guests, giving it away as a gift in a six-bottle case, or simply ensuring that the bottle doesn't run out before the evening ends.
