Torrevento Bolonero Castel del Monte

The Bolonero comes from Apulia's high plateau – one of the few wine-growing regions in southern Italy where the climate is cool enough to bring structure and freshness to a red wine.

Torrevento is one of the most reliable addresses in the DOC Castel del Monte. The winery north of Bari has been working for decades with the region's autochthonous grape varieties, including Nero di Troia – the basis of the Bolonero. This grape variety ripens slowly, builds up natural acidity, and in good years delivers wines with real backbone.

In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, dark blackberry, plum, and a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, medium to full body, the tannins are present but without edges – the typical character of Nero di Troia when it is not over-extracted. Finish with light spice and an invigorating line of acidity.

Drinking temperature: 16–18 °C. Goes well with lamb chops, Orecchiette al ragù, aged Pecorino, or tomato sauce with eggplant.
